We Honor the Sisters Who
Have Gone Before Us
Everyone has a story. The sisters
that have gone ahead of us had theirs. Sister Dorothy, St. Mary's
archivist, tells the stories of some great women of the past in memorials
taken from the community newsletter, Veritas.
Sister Robin Goes to
Africa
Sister Robin Richard (pronounced ree-SHARD), a genuine Acadian of
South Louisiana, is a well-traveled younger member of St. Mary's. With
other members of the Dominican Alliance (dominican-sisters.net/alliance/)
she went to Zambia to see first hand how we can extend our mission to
include our Dominican Sisters in Africa.
The Orphan Train
Foundling Hospital (1907) to Orphan Train, to the
heart of a large and loving New Orleans family (1909), Sarah Hunt-Fabacher
found her way to St. Mary's community of Dominican sisters in 1927. In 2000
Sister Mary James, 97, had one brother left in her family; Ignatius died in
2000 at age 90. Treasured by a host of devoted nieces and nephews as the
last of her generation, she was inducted into the Orphan Train Society,
Opelousas, Louisiana, in 2004. Read Sarah's story...
